Statistics Canada provides data in many forms…

The statistics contained in this brochure have been compiled by Statistics Canada, the national statistical agency. They represent only a small cross-section of the Agency’s products, but give a good indication of the information available on our society, our economy and our environment.

Our data serve a very useful role for our country, allowing people of Canada to make informed decisions, and governments of all levels to develop appropriate policies. As always, our focus is on data quality – which includes key features such as relevance, accuracy, accessibility, interpretability and coherence.

Thank you to all those individuals, businesses and institutions who give us their data. It is because of them that we can produce statistics that benefit all of us.

• The Daily offers unparalleled access to newly-released data, schedules of major releases and announcements of new products and services.
• Summary tables allow free access to data on many aspects of Canada’s economy, land, people and government, in easy-to-read tables.
• The Census provides a statistical portrait of Canada and its people at http://www12.statcan.ca/census-recensement/index-eng.cfm.
  Note: the most recent census was held on May 16, 2006.
• Community Profiles present community-level information from the 2006 Census of Population.
• Learning Resources employs Statistics Canada data in a wide variety of teaching materials, designed specifically for students and teachers.
• Canada Year Book Historical Collection covers the first century of Canada's history, from 1867 to 1967, with historical text, tables, charts and maps. This wealth of digitized historical data from past year books is available free on the Internet at www65.statcan.gc.ca.
