The statistics contained in this brochure have been compiled by Statistics Canada, the national statistical agency. They represent a small cross-section of the Agency’s products, but give a good indication of current social and economic trends.

Visit Statistics Canada’s website at www.statcan.gc.ca and discover a wealth of Canadian statistical information available from the most reliable source:

  • Visit Summary tables to get free data on many aspects of Canada’s economy, land, people and government in easy-to-read tables. Each section is introduced by an Overview of trends and four brief articles on more recent developments.
  • Canada Year Book, first published in 1867, is a premier reference on Canada and its people. With more than 400 pages, CYB provides analysis of major trends across the country as well as hundreds of tables and charts.
  • The Daily offers unparalleled access to newly released data, schedules of major releases and announcements of new products and services. Subscribe and a free electronic copy will be delivered to your e-mail address every working day.
  • Find information about the Census. Check out data the census website at www.census2006.gc.ca.
  • Look through Community Profiles to get a snapshot of approximately 6,000 communities in Canada, from Newfoundland and Labrador to Nunavut.
